Common Washing Machine Programmes

To make your laundry washing an easier and less daunting process, we have collated the most common programmes that you will find on washing machines Liverpool and explained how using them can improve the condition of your clothing, bedding and other laundry items. However, we also recommend double-checking your laundry item’s tags before washing them to be sure of the washing conditions that they are suitable to be in.

Synthetics

This programme should be used for your delicate clothing such as clothing made of polyester or viscose. This programme runs at a lower temperature of 40 degrees Celcius so that your clothing or laundry items are not damaged by high temperatures. The synthetic programme, or also known as a ‘delicate’ wash, will also have a lower spin rate and speed so your delicate items of clothing are not thrown around the washing machine drum to lower the chance of them catching or ripping during the programme.

Sports

If you are a regular gym goer or are part of a sports team, you will understand the struggle of removing sweat stains, sweat smell or deeply rubbed in mud. This is where using a sports clothing programme can help. The sports cycle is generally a long wash but is at a low temperature so that your delicate sports clothing are not ruined. The long wash means that the water and soap can penetrate the dirt, sweat and other stains without damaging the fabric. We recommend choosing a good detergent when using a sports programme to get the most out of it and ensure that all the stains have been removed, and your laundry is left clean and fresh smelling.

Quick Wash

We have all been there; you’ve woken up for work and realised you have no clean work clothes! This is where a quick wash is your saviour. This wash programme allows you to wash a small amount of clothing in a short period of time, sometimes as short as 15 minutes! However this programme is not very effective for removing any stains or widespread dirt and should only be used for a couple of items of clothing such as a shirt, jumper and a pair of trousers. Many machines, for a quick wash, will only allow you to wash 1.5kg of clothing so this is something to be aware of.

Wash Temperatures

If your washing machine doesn’t have a programme that is suitable for your laundry needs, on some machines you are able to set the wash temperature manually. This is extremely helpful if you are looking to remove more stains by using a hotter wash temperature or save money by running a lower temperature wash.

Many machines will give you the temperature options of 30, 40 and 60 degrees Celsius, whereas some combine wash programmes with these temperatures so that you can have a synthetic wash at 30, 40 or 60 degrees Celsius. For best results, we recommend checking the labels on your laundry items for the manufacturer's recommendations.

For a more economical wash, using a lower wash temperature should be your chosen course of action. However, choosing to use lower temperature washes will have less effect on stains on your clothing items.
