Maintaining your dishwasher Wirral
As the leading supplier of high-quality dishwashers in the Wirral area, Powerpoint Wallasey has 21 years of experience helping customers find the perfect dishwasher for their homes. Many of our customers have come to us as a result of their dishwashers breaking down beyond repair due to years of heavy use and little maintenance.
Dishwasher maintenance is something that can sometimes get forgotten about especially while juggling the hectic routines of modern life. Just setting a small amount of time aside every eight to twelve weeks for maintenance can make all the difference and prolong the health of your dishwasher. If you own a dishwasher in Wirral, make sure you follow our five-point Dishwasher maintenance guide

Wiping the door seals clean
After just a few washes, lots of small bits of food can find their way into the plastic door seals. When the door is slammed shut these bits of food are then squashed further into the plastic seals which damages them due to the force. If the damage is extensive enough and the seals get torn, the machine could then leak. Giving just a little wipe around the door seals every couple of weeks takes no more than a few seconds and can have a potentially long-term positive impact.
Rinse out/unblock spray arms
Small pieces of food are the biggest enemy you’ll face when keeping your dishwasher healthy and effective. The spray arms are located at the sides and roof of the dishwasher and are responsible for shooting high-pressure jets of hot soapy water to clean your dirty dishes. If food particles find their way into the tips of a dishwasher’s spray arms then the blockage can reduce jet effectiveness. Every four weeks you should make a habit of inspecting your spray arms and clearing any blockages you may find by rinsing them under a strong tap and poking away at any bits of lodged food.
Running a hot empty wash
Simply make sure your dishwasher is completely empty and put it on a hot wash cycle. This is a great way to stop your dishwasher from smelling as it will remove any rotting leftover food traces from the system. You need to make sure you use the hottest wash setting available as hot water works best at displacing lingering food. You should carry out an empty hot wash every six months or so.
Clean the filter
The dishwasher filter prevents washed up food residue from blocking up the drain by collecting it at the bottom of the machine. The filter also prevents all the pieces of displaced food from going back up into the wash and resettling on your dishes. If you have a manual filter then you’ll need to clean it on a weekly basis to ensure that there is an unobstructed path through which clean water can flow.
Use dishwasher salt
Hard water is a term used to describe a source of water in an area which contains a particularly high concentration of calcium and magnesium. If you live in a hard water area then you need to add a dose of dishwasher salt to soften the water used in your washes as this softens the water. The reason for this is to avoid limescale brought on from the extra mineral deposits found in the hard water. As you may have seen from kettles, limescale can build up very quickly and can be very fatal for dishwashers owing to the many moving parts they contain.

It may be that despite a good regular upkeep, your dishwasher has taken years of heavy use and just can’t function to the required standard that it once did. If this is the case then fear not as Powerpoint Wallasey is the go-to if you are looking for a great dishwasher in Wirral.
